ALEXIS coffee table
An experimental design that has drawn inspirations from Torii, entrances of Japanese Shinto Shrines. The beam at the center of the piece resembles the Nuki and Kusabi design that were seen in some of the traditional toriis. It also bears a structural function to enhance the stability of the table legs and also the add-on of the letter holder.
We have chosen to use contrasting wood colours of butterfly inlays to accommodate the central beam, adding a substantiate decorative feature that serves structural and aesthetic purposes.
The tabletop consist of a round piece of American Walnut and a contrasting piece of oak beneath it. The vast thickness combined gives a splendid feeling of solidness and it also allow us to implement our little thought about the piece, a hidden compartment for stationaries in between the two table tops!
